Veestro aims to deliver the world to its customers in easy, healthy, fast, plant-based meals. The service was founded by a brother-sister team who saw that fast meals weren’t focused on health, and health food wasn’t focused on convenience.
Veestro was born out of this need, and today it stands apart in the meal delivery industry by offering frozen, single-serve meals that are ready in minutes to serve the plant-based eater and accommodate a plethora of dietary restrictions. One of our experts gave this kit a test drive to see how it works.
Pricing: Cheaper for Recurring Orders
Veestro offers meal deliveries of either 10, 20, or 30 meals at a time. While we think this number is quite high compared to a lot of kits, the fact that the meals are frozen on arrival helps mitigate the cost and extend the value of the service. The cost of shipping is free for recurring orders but is $9.99 for one-time a la carte orders. One-time orders are also significantly more expensive at $14.25 per meal; however, if you opt for recurring, you’ll get the following prices based on plan size.
10 meals: From $12.82/meal

How It Works: One-Time or Recurring Orders
Veestro does require you to create an account in order to make a purchase, once your account is set up, you can see purchase information and track your shipment.
The service offers either the option of a one-time purchase or recurring orders, though the process for placing your first order is similar no matter which one you pick. Simply head to the website, pick from the three plan sizes, and choose your meals. No matter which plan you select, you’ll have about 60 different menu options, all plant-based, that will be delivered frozen to your door.

You’ll enter your delivery and payment information and be on your way. We ordered a one-time delivery from Veestro and didn’t love that there was no way to preview or select from delivery dates prior to placing the order. You, of course, do get delivery updates as is pretty standard with meal kits, but we only had a rough idea of when our food would arrive, which could be a problem for a delivery that’s perishable. Whether you choose a recurring order or a one-time delivery, there’s no way to select a delivery date and no changes can be made once your payment has been processed, so be sure to double-check your orders before they go through.
Choosing Meals: Large Menu, Easy Filtering
The menu for Veestro is static but quite large with over 50 options for entrees to choose from, and there is some rotation as well. In addition, there are about eight breakfast options, these all sound just as robust and filling as the other meals; they are added to the cart just like a regular meal.
Essentially, all you have to do is fill your cart up to your plan size and check out from there, but with so many choices, this could take a while. Luckily, if you want to filter your options to prioritize nutrition or diet needs like kosher meals or high-protein options, there is a simple set of buttons at the top of the menu page that allows you to do this, as well as combine filters.
If you want to find out more about a specific meal, hover over the picture on the main dashboard to find out which diets apply, or go to each meal’s page for more details like ingredient information, and even read reviews of each dish from other customers.
Unfortunately, there’s no ability to customize meals, and there are really no add-ons for the service; this keeps the process fairly simple and would feel restrictive if the menu weren’t so large.

What We Made
We selected options from various diet filters, as well as some of the highest-rated options to see just how good this meal service is.

Packaging: Mostly Recyclable, Thoughtfully Sized
Meals arrive frozen, packed in dry ice, and in a recyclable cardboard box. Inside there is insulation made from starch, which can be dissolved in water, and the bag holding it can be recycled. In addition, the trays that each meal comes in are recyclable with a plastic film over the top, plus a plastic pouch that holds sauces that are kept separate. Overall, we did have quite a bit of flexible plastic to contend with from that, plus the bags that the dry ice was sealed in, but nearly all of it was recyclable for us.
On a separate note, we did like that the packaging for Veestro meals wasn’t large. We expected our order of 10 meals to overwhelm our freezer, but the meals are packed as small as possible, and that was a nice surprise. We could easily see ordering these to keep on hand and not feel like we were drowning in them.

Customer Support: Same-Day Response
We reached out to Veestro with some pretty standard questions related to our account and our delivery options, and we were met with efficient and friendly responses all around. We didn’t love that there’s no instant chat option, but you can call during normal business hours PST or email; we opted for the latter. Each email we sent received a response within 24 hours.
Nutrition: Plant-Based Plus
By nature, Veestro accommodates a number of different diets given that all meals are vegan and therefore made without eggs, fish, shellfish, and dairy. Veestro goes beyond this, however, to provide meals for a combination of other diets such as high protein, gluten-free, low calorie, weight loss, nut-free, soy-free, and kosher. It is worth noting that the facility where food is processed is vegan, but it does also process wheat, soy, and nuts.
We didn’t find much information on the Veestro website related to definitions for some of these diets, but nutrition for the high protein and low-calorie options seem to have a wide range; while we don’t necessarily see this as problematic, it’s all the more reason to spell it out clearly for customers.
The Cooking Process: Defrost to Heat
Veestro’s meals arrive frozen and should be stored in the freezer. While you can heat them from frozen, the service recommends defrosting first for best results. We tried both options and didn’t notice much of a difference in textures.
Defrosted or not, the rest of the process is super simple and we found that the microwave method for heating worked fine. Veestro also includes instructions for other methods of heating, but we didn’t really feel one worked better than the other and since the microwave was so much faster, we opted for that.
Ultimately, no matter which method you choose, the meals are simple to heat and eat, making them great for people who are beginner cooks or in a rush.

Flavor, Freshness, and Quality: Solid Flavors, Some Challenging Textures
Veestro meals arrive frozen and without any issues in terms of freshness or quality. The service offers mostly organic, non-GMO ingredients, and everything seemed fine to eat when the time came, which can be a bit hard to tell with frozen meals. We did see some claims on the website about sourcing—for example, that the service uses over 96% organic produce—but there was no elaboration at all, which we would have liked to see for transparency purposes.
Our one issue with Veestro’s food was only in the textures of some of the dishes. While we thought the stews and curries were completely delicious with very good flavor, other dishes left something to be desired purely based on texture. This can probably be navigated around once you determine meals you like, but when you’re paying upwards of $10 and sometimes $14 per meal, we feel every dish ought to be an all-around success.
Veestro Is Good For
Veestro makes sense for the busy plant-based eater who needs food in a hurry. We think it’s best for individuals and couples rather than larger groups, as the service is all single-serving meals that cost over $10 per serving to start.
The meals are simple to heat and eat, making them great for people who are beginner cooks or in a rush.
The Competition: Veestro vs. Purple Carrot
In the world of meal kit options, Purple Carrot and Veestro both specialize in fully prepared vegan meals delivered right to your door. The kits differ greatly in style of preparation, variety, and diets served though.
Veestro offers frozen meals to Purple Carrot’s fresh approach, and we have to say we preferred the fresh version. However, Veestro has many times more variety than Purple Carrot does, and we liked that the frozen options from Veestro had a more extended shelf life. Both kits also have gluten-free options. If you have additional dietary needs, however, we recommend Veestro as that service has much more to choose from in diets as well.
Final Verdict
Veestro makes sense for the seasoned, plant-based eater who wants a consistent, daily option that’s low effort. The eating experience may not be exactly restaurant quality, but we think it makes going vegan just that much simpler, and pretty delicious.
