FOMO And How To Avoid It

by

Do you feel like you are constantly missing out on something exciting and important? Do you spend your time scrolling on Instagram and wishing your life was more like theirs?

FOMO, or “fear of missing out,” is a real phenomenon that is becoming increasingly common and can happen to anyone.

It can cause significant stress in your life and lowers your self-esteem and self-confidence.

What exactly is FOMO?

The fear of missing out refers to the perception that others are having more fun, living better lives, or experiencing better things than you are. These feelings are amplified through social media where we get to experience people’s perceived “perfect” life.

So, if you’re caught up in the FOMO cycle, today I’m sharing with you some ways to overcome this:

Change your feed

Change your feed to show you less of what triggers your FOMO and more of what makes you feel good about yourself. Add more positive people to your feed; hide people who tend to brag too much.

Focus on gratitude

It’s harder to feel as if you lack the things you need in life when you are focused on the abundance you already have. You will not feel FOMO when you realize how much you already have.

Identify what’s important to you

You can’t do everything or be everywhere at once. So be honest with yourself: What do you want? What’s important for you?

Prioritize what you want and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. It’s all about what you want and prioritizing that in your life. Focus your energy on what you want, instead of the things you think other people want to see you doing.

Be in the present moment

Remember to be in the present moment, and celebrate each day with gratitude. Why do we spend so much of our energy wishing we had someone else’s life when ours is perfectly fine?

Don’t compare

People show you the highlight reels of their life. It’s easy to think that someone else has a perfect life, but keep in mind that we see only the things other people want us to see and believe. You don’t know what they’re going through.

Embrace your life and focus on your goals

As long as you’re living life how you want, you’re not missing out on anything. We all have different priorities, and that’s okay. So if you decided to live your life a certain way, embrace it. By being clear about your goals you won’t worry about what anyone else is doing.

Celebrate your achievements

The key to overcoming the fear of missing out is to simply focus on what is going well, however big or small. What we focus on expands. We can choose to expand FOMO or expand our focus on achievements.

Focus on what you have, be grateful, and focus on your path, your goals, and the things you truly love.

How do you overcome your fear of missing out? I’d love to hear you ❤
